The school of God. Philo of Alexandria comments extensively on the Greek text of Deuteronomy, interpreting many passages to this end - God is teaching and instructing us. But did he get it right? What does the New Testament (which Philo likely did not know) have to say? Is the Greek Orthodox doctrine of theosis, a dramatic transformation that results in a divine quality to our thoughts and actions, the best signpost for this educative process in our lives? And is this really just old-school sanctification?
